HABIT AND CHARACTER

Nothing is stronger than a habit.

Every work that we do, every moment of the body, every thought we think, leaves such an impression on the mind-stuff and even when such ideas are not apparent on the surface, they are sufficiently strong to work beneath the surface, subconsciously. What we are every moment. It is determined by the sum total of these impressions on the mind. What we are just at this moment is the effect of the sum total of all the feelings of our past life. This really meant to be a character.

For our purposes, we will define a habit because it plays a significant role in building our character. So, habit is as the intersection of knowledge, skill and desire. Knowledge is the theoretical paradigm, the what to do and the why. Skill is how to do. And desire os the motivation they want to do. To make something a habit in our lives, we have to have all three.

Habit maybe the second nature, but it is also the fundamental nature and the whole nature of humans, that everything we see is the result of practices. Here, a man can acquire many habits at a time, and humans can perform well when they visualise habits and by taking actions. That gives us consolation, it's all about a habit which we can make and unmake it at any time. The impressions are left by these vibrations passing out of our mind, each one of them having its result. Our character is the sum total these marks, and according to as some wave prevails, one takes that tone.

We may be ineffective in interaction with our work associates, spouse, friends or children because we always tell them what we think, but we never really listen to them. Unless we search out correct principles of human interaction, we may not even know, but we need to listen.

Even if we do know that to interact effectively with others, we really need to listen to them, we may not have the skill. We may not know how really listen deeply to others. But knowing we need to listen and knowing how to listen is not enough. Unless we want to listen, unless we have the desire, it won't be a habit in my life. Creating a habit requires work in all thee dimensions. If good prevails, one becomes good. If wickedness, one becomes wicked. If joyfulness, one becomes happy. The only remedy for a lousy habit is counter habits. All the bad habits that have left their impressions are to be controlled by good habits.

Being changing, seeing, which in turn changes being, and so forth, as we move spiral of growth upward. By working on knowledge, skill and desire, we can break through to new levels of personal and interpersonal effectiveness as we break with the paradigms that may have been a source of pretended security for years.

Go on doing good, thinking holy thoughts continuously. That is the only way to suppress base impressions. Never say the man is hopeless because he only represents a character, a bundle of habits, which can be checked by new and better ones. Character is repeated habits, and repeated habits can alone reform character.
